小群

设 $G$ 是作用在流形 $M$ 上的李群。点 $p \in M$ 的各向同性群(isotropy group)是 $G$ 的一个子群，定义为

H (p) = {g \in G ∣ σ (g, p) = p} . (5.149)

$H (p)$ 也称为 $p$ 的小群(little group)或稳定化子(stabilizer)。

容易看出 $H (p)$ 确实是一个子群。设 $g_{1}, g_{2} \in H (p)$ ，则由于 $σ (g_{1} g_{2}, p) = σ (g_{1}, σ (g_{2}, p)) = σ (g_{1}, p) = p$ ，有 $g_{1} g_{2} \in H (p)$ 。显然 $e \in H (p)$ ，因为按定义 $σ (e, p) = p$ 。若 $g \in H (p)$ ，则由于 $p = σ (e, p) = σ (g^{- 1} g, p) = σ (g^{- 1}, σ (g, p)) = σ (g^{- 1}, p)$ ，有 $g^{- 1} \in H (p)$ 。

Let $G$ be a Lie group that acts on a manifold $M$ . The isotropy group of $p \in M$ is a subgroup of $G$ defined by
$H (p) = {g \in G ∣ σ (g, p) = p} . (5.149)$
$H (p)$ is also called the little group or stabilizer of $p$ .

It is easy to see that $H (p)$ is indeed a subgroup. Let $g_{1}, g_{2} \in H (p)$ , then $g_{1} g_{2} \in H (p)$ since $σ (g_{1} g_{2}, p) = σ (g_{1}, σ (g_{2}, p)) = σ (g_{1}, p) = p$ . Clearly $e \in H (p)$ since $σ (e, p) = p$ by definition. If $g \in H (p)$ , then $g^{- 1} \in H (p)$ since $p = σ (e, p) = σ (g^{- 1} g, p) = σ (g^{- 1}, σ (g, p)) = σ (g^{- 1}, p)$ .
