(ii) $σ (g_{1}, σ (g_{2}, p)) = σ (g_{1} g_{2}, p) .$ (5.141b)

Let $G$ be a Lie group and $M$ be a manifold. The action of $G$ on $M$ is a differentiable map $σ : G \times M \to M$ which satisfies the conditions

(i) $σ (e, p) = p$ for any $p \in M$ (5.141a)
(ii) $σ (g_{1}, σ (g_{2}, p)) = σ (g_{1} g_{2}, p) .$ (5.141b)

[Remark: We often use the notation $g p$ instead of $σ (g, p)$ . The second condition in this notation is $g_{1} (g_{2} p) = (g_{1} g_{2}) p$ .]
