AdS is the setting for our best-understood theories of quantum gravity. It turns out that gravitational dynamics in asymptotically AdS spacetimes is entirely equivalent to a quantum field theory living on the boundary I. This idea goes by many names, including the AdS/CFT correspondence, gauge-gravity duality, or simply holography.
