It is further possible to subdivide Lorentz transformations into those having $L_4^{4^{\prime }}\ge 1$ and those having $L_4^{4^{\prime }}\le -1$ (see Problem 9.2). Those Lorentz tansformations for which both $\det \mathsf{L}=+1$ and $L_4^{4^{\prime }}\ge 1$ are called proper Lorentz transformations. They are analogous to rotations about the origin in Euclidean space. All other Lorentz transformations are called improper.
